Description of the Program
The program aims at climate and environmental studies, including climate change, physical oceanography, meteorology and atmospheric processes, as well as methods and techniques of remote sensing. The diploma provides a basis for careers in public or private research laboratories, space-related entreprises,as well as public and privite bodies concerned by global environment and climatic risks. The M2 program is open for students succeeded the first year M1 OACOS, or equivalent, as well as for students of M1 programs in physics and applied mathematics.
The Program is associated with the Doctoral School "Sciences pour l'Environnement d'Ile de France"
Possible orientations:
4 main sub-domains of specialisation are proposed:
-
Dynamics of the Ocean and the Atmosphere
-
Meteorology, physics and chemistry of the atmosphere
-
Physical methods of remote sensing ( http://teledetection.lmd.jussieu.fr/mpt/)
with a corresponding choice of courses. Students may also have a choice of courses according to an individual project
During the year M2 (semesters S3 et S4) a student has to validate 33 ECTS of courses (mandatory and elective), and 27 ECTS of research internship.
Organisation of the OACOS M2 program
The first semester represents a common base of 24 ECTS of fundamentals and specialisation. Three blocks of fundamentals are proposed : large-scale dynamical processes, physical processes in the atmosphere and the ocean, numerical tools. The UE of specialisation (6ECTS minimum) allow further orientation towards Physical methods of remote sensing, or Oceanography and/or Meteorology. A number of optional UE of 3 ECTS provide openings to connexe scientific domains and/or further specialisation.
This academic program is completed by research internship occupying a major part of the second semester.
